Our ways are not His ways

Our perception of things is not always God's will

I have been reading in a book from Jerry Benjamin's Little Nugget Series, "What Is Not the Judgment of God." Have you found yourself wondering these days if Coved-19 is the judgment of God. It certainly is a global issue and the world in general has continued to disappoint God year after year. But as Jerry has pointed out in his series from 2 Pet 3:9, "...it's God's will that none should perish, and that all should come to faith in Christ."

Perhaps we are more self centred than God centred

Jerry gives us a very good example of such a case under the heading of "A believer in the Old Testament" [p.6]. "King David's general, Joab had his own perception of that which the king of Israel ought to be and do. As long as David fit the mold that Joab established, then Joab would support and obey David. But, if David said or did that which differed from Joab,s standard, then Joab took matters into his own hands, and consequently, disobeyed David, Hence, Joab was loyal to the throne of Israel, but not to the one who sat upon the throne." It's not only possible, but common of believers today to be devoted to  the Kingdom, but not to  the King.

Judgment and Wrath

To quote from Jerry Benjamin [p.7], "Therefore, it is not until at His Second Coming that He pours out His wrath or judgment. But, before then, He is manifesting  His mercy.

My Conclusion

During this  time of a coved-19 pandemic God has the focused attention of more people than I have seen in my life time. In many homes the eternal perspective has taken the place of the temporal. More people are praying, more people are changing how they pray. More people are concerned about their neighbours. We have more active hero's in our midst [the front line workers]. All of us are sacrificing more than we ever have before. In general our over exaggerated sense of self entitlement is depleting. We are learning to care  more about one another. We are having to learn to keep our distance and share our space all at the same time. In our homes we are driving each other crazy and coming to our sanity, realizing more than ever before the importance of family, and what it means to  be a part of one. It's all very good and very hard. Thank you Jesus for carry us through ... even through the valley of the shadow of death.

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

Pray without ceasing. In everything , give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
