The term "dumb" idol is used because unlike the true and living God, they cannot speak. Nebuchadnezzar made a golden idol to draw attention to himself. Not only was this a dumb idol it was also a dumb thing to do. Nebuchadnezzar's problem was himself. He was self centered. It is a common problem many of us choose to ignore and many more are in denial about. For those of us who may not have realized it yet the dumbest idol we will ever look at is the one we smile at in the mirror. The worship of self is not a wise life choice, it is a preoccupation that will ruins us.
